BUIES CREEK, N.C. The
Campbell men's tennis team evened its record at 2-2 today with a
6-1 win over Charleston Southern at the Nisbet Tennis
Center.
Three Campbell players
picked up victories in both singles and doubles matches against the
Bucs (0-2). Freshman Davy Sum led the way for the Camels at
number-one, battling back from a first-set loss to defeat Steven
Dean 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. The Strasbourg, France
native is 10-6 on the year, including a 2-2 mark at number-one
singles.
Sum also teamed with fellow
freshman Larbi Lamzouri to pick up an 8-3 doubles victory at the
one-spot. Lamzouri, from Meknes, Morocco, improved his singles mark
to 2-1, as he won a hard-fought 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 match over Grega
Teraz at number-three.
Sebastian Thesleff rounded
out the players with singles and doubles wins. The Lund, Sweden
native teamed with junior Brent Darden to claim an 8-5 three-spot
doubles victory, before triumphing over Luis Maselli 7-6, 6-2 at
the number-six singles spot.
Also picking up singles wins
for the Camels were Marc Sifre, with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 decision at
number-four, and Beto Mondini with a 6-3, 6-3 win at
number-five.
Guy David claimed the
number-two singles match for Charleston Southern, and also teamed
with Grega Teraz to win at number-one doubles.
The Camels return to action
tomorrow, Feb. 9, as they head to Conway, S.C. to take on
Winston-Salem State at 12:00p.m. and Coastal Carolina at
3:00p.m.
