JOHNSON CITY, TENN.
East Tennessee State, ranked 46th nationally, proved too strong for
Campbell this afternoon as the Buccaneers swept the Camels 7-0 in
Atlantic Sun men's tennis action.
Due to inclement weather,
the matches were moved indoors to the Memorial Center.
With the loss, Campbell
falls to 14-6 on the season, 6-2 in the A-Sun. East Tennessee State
improves to 18-3 and 8-0 in conference play.
ETSU jumped out to the early
lead by winning all three doubles matches to claim the doubles
point. Campbell's Gabriel Delarue and Davy Sum put up a hard-fought
struggle in the number-one match, but Alex Ahlgren and Oscar Posada
edged past them in an 8-7 decision.
The Bucs went on to sweep
all six singles matches in straight-sets. Freshman Sum nearly
forced a tie-breaking third set in the number-one match against no.
77 Enrique Olivares, but ended up dropping a close 6-3, 7-6
decision.
The Fighting Camels return
to action tomorrow as they head to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC
Upstate. Matches are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
