BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Kennesaw State hit .291, converting 45 kills as
the Owls downed Campbell 3-0 (18-25, 11-25, 19-25) in Atlantic Sun
volleyball action Friday night inside the John W. Pope, Jr.
Convocation Center.
The Camels fall to 15-9 with an 8-5 A-Sun mark, ending a three
match win streak, while KSU moves to 12-9 with a 7-7 conference
ledger.
Senior middle blocker Ashley Weers led the Camels
with 10.0 points on eight kills, including five in the third set,
adding four block assists. Junior outside hitter Emily
Werner recorded six scores with six digs and three block
assists, while junior middle Caitlin Bendy posted five
kills and four block assists.
Junior outside hitter Allyson Goldbach added three
kills in the loss with nine digs and a pair of aces. Sophomore
setter Hope Leatigaga tallied 18
assists with nine digs, while senior defensive specialist Sarah Hill
registered a team-high 14 digs.
Leading the Owls was junior outside hitter Sabrita Gulley, who
converted 14 of her 32 swings for kills with only two errors
(.375), adding five digs, two blocks and an ace. Senior right side
hitter Chelsey Denesha followed with 12 kills, 12 digs and five
assists. Callie Churchwell, a sophomore middle, notched six kills
and a total of four blocks.
Rachel Albright and Ginny Frederick combined for 36 of the Owls 43
assists, with Albright taking a match-high 20 helpers. The
sophomore Palm City, Fla. native added nine digs, while Frederick,
a senior setter, notched a par of digs with a kill. Senior libero
Selina O'Leary gathered 19 digs in the sweep.
The Camels will be in action again tomorrow evening, taking on
Mercer in a 5 p.m. tilt inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation
Center.
