VALPARAISO, Ind. - Campbell's football team (3-7, 2-5 Pioneer
Football League) were able to triple their victory total from last
season and secure the team's first road win of the season in a 17-3
win over Valparaiso (1-9, 0-7 PFL) on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Brown
Field.
The Camels were able to outgain the Crusaders 450-160 in the game
with three different CU runners able to top 50 yards rushing in the
game. Daniel Polk led the
offensive charge with 105 yards rushing. Carl Smith totaled 100
yards and touchdown. C.J. Oates totaled 65 yards
and a touchdown on the ground. Smith and Polk's 100 yard game is
the second time that Campbell has had a pair of 100 yard rushers in
a game this season.
The Campbell offense scored first on the opening drive with
redshirt sophomore C.J. Oates scampering in
from four-yard out to finish off an 82-yard effort. The Adam
Willets kick was good to make the score 7-0 CU with 12:03
remaining in the first period. Redshirt junior tight end Mike
Stryffeler had a 22-yard reception on the drive. Stryffeler had
four catches and 67 yards to lead the team in the game.
The CU offense kept it going, aided by a fourth down conversion,
and added a Willets 20-yard field goal with 13:30 remaining in the
second period.
The Campbell offense got the ball back on the next possession when
Brandon Chandler was able to
pick it off Valparaiso in the CU end zone. The Camels then drove
all the way down the field in eight plays and 80 yards. Smith had
the two-yard touchdown run and a 26-yard reception on the drive.
The Willets kick was good to increase the score to 17-0.
Valparaiso got on the board for the first time with 8:16 remaining
in the game on Andrzej Skiba's 20-yard field goal to make the score
17-3.
Chandler had two interceptions in the game for CU. Sophomore Erik
Feliciano led the defensive effort with nine stops
Campbell will now return home and host the final regular season
game of the season with a 1 p.m. contest against Jacksonville at
Barker-Lane Stadium.
