Volleyball Closes Home Slate with Senior Day

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-With hopes of clinching its second consecutive Atlantic Sun Tournament appearance, Campbell volleyball will host its last pair of matches this season, while bidding farewell to seniors Sarah Hill and Ashley Weers.

The Camels are fresh off setting a program record with nine conference victories on the season, hitting the mark with a 3-0 sweep of Stetson last Friday. The Camels, at 16-11 overall, already have the most wins since the 2001 team went 17-10, have a 9-7 Atlantic Sun record with four contests remaining. The Camels' nine league wins surpasses the 1998 team's eight. The Camels also improved to 13-4 away from Buies Creek this season, including a 6-2 mark in A-Sun road contests.

Campbell's first match of the weekend set will be against Jacksonville at 6 p.m. inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center. The Dolphins, at 16-7 and 12-4 on the year, will be trying to lock up the A-Sun Tournament's No. 2 seed after dropping two straight against Lipscomb and Belmont in Jacksonville. JU held a 13 match winning streak coming into the weekend. The Dolphins will face East Tennessee State on Saturday.

On Saturday, Senior Day for the Camels, Campbell will face North Florida in a 3 p.m. tilt. The Ospreys are 10-16 with a 4-12 A-Sun record, led by junior middle blocker Kaley Read with 3.82 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon is adding 2.91 kills per set while senior outside hitter Agata Dawidowicz is tallying 1.99 kills per set. Junior setter Jessica Catelano is putting up 9.14 assists per set and freshman libero Nicole Baran is notching 2.69 digs per set. UNF will face ETSU on Friday before heading to Buies Creek.

The Camels defeated UNF 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18) while falling to Jacksonville 3-0 (27-29, 18-25, 21-25) in Florida's River City.

Weers has led the Camels this season, averaging 3.22 points per set on 2.58 kills and 0.93 blocks a frame. The Littleton, Colo. native has reached double figure points 21 times this season, including 15 straight matches from Sept. 18 to Oct. 24. That streak came to an end last weekend, however, the senior middle still managed 9.0 points at both Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.

Weers stands tied for ninth all-time on the CU solo block list with Femi Alabi (2005-07) with 61. The senior also ranked sixth on the assisted and total blocks lists at 220 and 281, respectively, and has posted a career-high 93 denials this season.

Hill, a redshirt senior libero, has anchored the Camel defense this season with a career-high 3.95 digs per set. Last weekend, the Rockford, Ill. native moved up to eighth on the Campbell all-time digs list with 1029, a mark that includes 348 this year. Hill has collected double figure digs in 16 matches this season, including each of her last 11 outings for the Camels. Hill set a Pope Center record with 37 digs against Mercer two weeks ago.

After facing the Dolphins and Ospreys, Campbell will close out the regular season in Nashville, Tenn., facing Belmont and Lipscomb.
