BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Jacksonville's Kathryn Kane posted 20 kills and
17 digs, leading the Dolphins to a 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 17-25)
win at Campbell in Atlantic Sun conference action Friday night
inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
Campbell falls to 16-12 overall with a 9-8 A-Sun mark, while the
Dolphins drop to 17-7 with a 13-4 conference record.
Junior outside hitter Emily Werner tagged 16 kills
in the loss with a career-high 22 digs, totaling 17.5 points. Allyson
Goldbach added 12 kills and 16 digs for the Camels with three
aces, while senior middle blocker Ashley Weers recorded 10
scores and two blocks. Junior middle Caitlin Bendy registered five
kills with four blocks.
Sophomore setter Hope Leatigaga led the
Camels with 40 assists, adding 16 digs. Senior libero Sarah Hill
tallied 16 digs in the loss.
Kane, a sophomore outside hitter, added three aces and one block.
Senior outside hitter Brooke Singleton posted 11 kills with 13
digs, while freshman middle Alison Loeppky totaled eight kills.
Werner led the Camels to the win in the opening set, 25-23,
slugging six kills on 13 tries with only two errors. Goldbach also
tagged four scores in the frame, while Leatigaga posted five digs.
Sarah Hill recorded six digs.
Kane led the Dolphins with five kills.
Kane again led the Dolphins in the second frame, this time to a
win, 25-18, as the sophomore tallied seven kills. Werner added
another five in the set for the Camels, while Goldbach and Reaves
grabbed five digs each.
The Camels managed just a -.60 attack rate in the third set,
committing 13 errors as Jacksonville came way with the 25-21 win.
The Camels owned a 20-15 advantage in the set, but surrendered
eight straight points, and 10 of the final 11 tallies on the
frame.
Loeppky led the Dolphins in the fourth and final set with five
kills on nine errorless attempts, as Jacksonville clinched the win,
25-17. Walroth posted 11 digs in the frame, her third set with the
same total.
The Camels will face North Florida tomorrow at 3 p.m. inside the
John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center. Seniors Ashley
Weers and Sarah Hill will be honored
before the match.
