CREEK,
N.C.-Belmont converted 14 Campbell turnovers into 17 points as the
Bruins topped CU 63-40 in women's basketball action Saturday
afternoon inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
Campbell falls to 10-13 overall with a
3-11 A-Sun mark, while Belmont improves to 14-8 with a 9-4
conference record.
For the first time this
season, the Lady Camels were without a double figure scorer, but
were led by the duo of Lauren Arthur and Geami Britt, who posted
eight points apiece. Arthur added two assists on the afternoon
while Britt recorded three rebounds.
Freshman forward Whitney
Ferguson chipped in six points for the Lady Camels with three
rebounds, while sophomore post Lauren Yesh tallied four points and
a team-high six boards.
Belmont was paced by sophomore
forward Tereva Moore, who notched 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting,
including three field goals from distance. Junior guard Amber
Rockwell added 11 points in the win, pulling down five
rebounds.
Senior center Jessica Bobbitt
and junior guard LaWanna Holiday recorded nine points in the
contest, with Bobbitt snagging nine rebounds as well. All three of
Holiday's field goals came from three point land, as the Bruins
posted 10 treys on the game.
After Campbell netted the
game's first three baskets to go up 6-0, a Moore three pointer gave
the Bruins their first points at the 14:48 mark. Belmont quickly
snatched the lead with five more unanswered points, but held only a
one point advantage by the 5:16 mark.
The Bruins then nailed four
consecutive threes to post a 12-0 run from 4:58 until 1:06, taking
a 32-21 lead into the halftime break.
The Lady Camels then posted
the second half's first five points, thanks to an Arthur triple and
a Yesh lay-in, but the Bruins clawed back, reeling off a 14-0
streak before a Ferguson three put Campbell on the board for the
first time in over seven minutes of action. Leading by as many as
26 in the contest, the Bruins ended the game with a 63-40
win.
The Lady Camels will head
back on the road next weekend for a pair of A-Sun games in the
River City, facing Jacksonville and North Florida on Thursday and
Saturday. Campbell will return home on Feb. 19, hosting East
Tennessee State. The contest will also be CU's Pack it in Pink
game, raising breast cancer awareness. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
inside the Pope Center.
