CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.-Despite nine kills apiece from Ashley Weers, Allyson Goldbach and Emily Werner, Campbell volleyball fell to Virginia, 3-0 (24-26, 18-25, 17-25), in the final contest of the Holliday Jefferson Cup Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

The Cavaliers move to 4-2 on the season, while CU drops to a 5-3 mark. With the loss, the Camels finish 2009 with a 1-1 record against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, grabbing a victory last weekend at North Carolina State. Campbell is now 0-2 all-time against the Cavaliers.

On top of junior outside hitter duo Emily Werner and Allyson Goldbach's nine kills, the pair added a combined 18 digs, while Werner posted two block assists and an ace. Ashley Weers, a senior middle blocker, hit .467 (9-2-15) on the day, notching two block assists and a single dig. With her two block assists, Weers moves into a tie with former all-conference Camel Tabitha Turner (2003-06) for seventh all-time with 172.

Junior right side hitter Caroline Hammersley added five kills and a block assist in the loss. Junior Paige Tortorello and sophomore Hope Leatigaga combined for 34 of the Camels' 38 assists, splitting the ticks 19 and 15, respectively. In the opening frame, the Camels owned a 23-20 lead over UVA, as Allyson Goldbach knocked a score past the Cavalier defense. A pair of Virginia points then brought the game to a 23-22 margin before Goldbach, again, found space to grab another kill, her fourth of the set. At set-point for the Camels, a pair of UVA kills, an ace and a CU attack error gave the Cavaliers a come-back win, 26-24. Werner ended the frame with seven of her nine kills, with Virginia's Lauren Dickson matching her. Farrar also chipped in five scores for UVA.
