BUIES CREEK, N.C.-After nearly averaging a double-double and
leading Campbell to its first 3-0 Atlantic Sun start since 2005-06,
junior forward Lauren Yesh has been
announced as the league's Player of the Week.
Yesh averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game during the Lady
Camels' 2-0 week, that included a 30-point win over Winston-Salem
State and a grinding 75-72 thriller over USC Upstate on the
road.
"Yesh is really being a great leader for our team," said head coach
Wanda Watkins of her team
captain. "She's had some good games, and it was great to see her
put together back to back performances like she did. Yesh was vital
in our last two wins, playing very well from scoring, rebounding
and leadership standpoints. I'm happy to see her get this
well-deserved honor."
Against WSSU, Yesh tied a then season-high with 14 points and added
10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Yesh also
added two steals, a block and an assist in the 84-54 win, which
also marked Campbell's highest scoring output so far this season.
The Evart, Mich. native then followed with a new season-high of 15
points at USC Upstate, including 11 in the second half, while
pulling down nine rebounds, narrowly missing her second
double-double of the week.
Starting all 11 games this season for the Lady Camels, Yesh has
posted double figure scoring games seven times, including each of
her last three contests, and 27 times during her three-year
career.
The award is Yesh's first, and the 24th all-time since
Campbell joined the A-Sun in 1994. The last Lady Camel to be named
A-Sun Player of the Week was Marlena Murphy during the
2007-08 season, Yesh's freshman year.
Yesh is averaging 9.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Lady
Camels this season, with a .477 field goal percentage.
Campbell will be in action tonight at home against Longwood, taking
on the Lancers at 7 p.m. inside the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation
Center, the second of four games in eight days for the Lady
Camels.
