CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University men's tennis doubles team of
Davy Sum and Dominik Kaniewski
enter this week as the #56 ranked doubles team in the nation
according to this week's Campbell/ITA College Tennis
Rankings.
Sum/Kaniewski currently own a 9-1 overall doubles mark on the
season including a 3-1 record in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The
duo also started the season with an eight match winning streak
before dropping a match against Renato Antun and Rafael Matos of
Belmont.
"It is well deserved for Davy and Dominik to get the doubles
ranking," said Campbell head coach David Johnson. "They have
only lost once this season and have played consistently well and
their efforts at number one doubles have helped set the tone for
our other doubles teams."
This marks the highest ranking for a Campbell since 2003 when the
doubles team of Martin Parkes and Sergio Tejada earned a number-60
national ranking during the season. Campbell has never had a
doubles team finish a season with a year-end national ranking.
"A large part of our success this season has been due to our
overall doubles play," said Coach Johnson. "I'm happy for these
guys to receive this type of recognition and I hope they can
maintain their excellent play."
In Division I, the ITA (National) Rankings are determined by a
computerized system, using the ITA's average points-per-match
formula. They are released about 17 times during the season
(pre-season, fall, and 14 times on a weekly basis in the spring and
year-end). The Division I top 75 teams, top 125 singles players and
top 80 doubles teams receive an ITA ranking. The ITA Rankings are
also used in selection of all ITA National Championships.
Campbell returns to action on Friday as the team hits the road to
take on UNC Asheville beginning at 1 p.m.
