Women's Soccer Travels to High Point for Season's First Away Match

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- After dropping its regular season-opener Friday, the Campbell women's soccer team will look to get back on track as they travel to face High Point in a 7 p.m. kick-off Monday at Vert Stadium.

The Camels (0-1) were unable to overcome two first-half goals from Western Carolina on Friday, and lost 2-1 after senior Kaili Terry converted a late penalty.

High Point (1-0) beat Francis Marion 1-0 Friday in its season and home-opener. Freshman Becca Hemby's 49th minute header off a free kick pushed the Panthers past the Patriots.

Monday's contest will mark the fourth meeting between Campbell and High Point. The Camels have won all three matches in the series, including a 1-0 triumph in Buies Creek in 2009.

Despite finishing the 2009 campaign 7-15-2, the Panthers went on to win the Big South tournament championship for the second time in the last three years.

High Point was picked to finish fourth in the annual Big South coaches' preseason poll announced on Tuesday. High Point returns thirteen letter winners, including sophomore Janay Whittaker, who was named to the All-Big South second team as a freshman in 2009.

Second-year head coach Marty Beall signed two transfers and ten freshman recruits to round out the 2010 roster.

Campbell returns ten starters from a 2009 campaign that marked fifth-year head coach Todd Clark's most successful in Buies Creek. Campbell compiled a 9-9-2 record and rode a tight defense and timely scoring to its first Atlantic Sun Championship tournament berth since 2005.

Eight of CU's nine victories came by one-goal margins, including league wins over Lipscomb, Florida Gulf Coast, East Tennessee State and USC Upstate. Midfielder Marisa Muller was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference second team and defender Jeannie Borda was an A-Sun All-Freshmen honoree.
