LEXINGTON, Va.-Sarah Strand scored her first goal of the season
early in the second half and VMI topped Campbell 1-0 Saturday at
Patchin Field.
The
Keydets scored the game's lone goal in the 49th minute
when Gabby McCarron's shot was saved by CU keeper Jamie
Panfil, but the rebound was tapped into an open goal by
Strand.
VMI held
off Campbell's comeback attempt to seal the win. Annabelle
Gibney's shot in the 63rd minute was tipped off the
bar by Keydet keeper Heidi Beemer.
Marisa
Muller beat a VMI defender in the 88th minute and
had only the keeper to beat, but her shot went just wide.
VMI
improves to 1-5, while Campbell falls to 3-4-1 on the season.
Campbell
outshot VMI 19-10, including a 10-4 margin in attempts on target.

defeat was Campbell's second-straight 1-0 loss to a Big South
school, following its 1-0 loss at Radford
Thursday.
The
Camels return to the pitch for their Atlantic Sun opener Thursday
when they host USC Upstate. Campbell has won two of
the three meetings between the schools, including a 2-1 victory in
Spartanburg last year. Muller assisted on Kirsty
Meyer's goal, then scored the game-winner in the
72nd minute.
