CHARLESTON, S.C. - Campbell's swimming team (10-10, 9-5 CCSA) lost
a tough 147-131 decision to College of Charleston on Friday night
at Stern Pool. The Camels swam well and ended up totaling 24
top-three finishes over the course of the meet. CU actually ended
the swimming portion of the meet tied with the Cougars at 131
points each, but lost all 16 points to CofC since the Camels do not
have a competing diving team.
Cheriesse
Campbell continued her record-breaking freshman campaign and
set the new school mark in winning the 800 free (9:32.86). The
previous mark was set by Kelly
Mullican during a meet last season. The Sunrise, Fla. native
also finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:08.35) and third in
the 200 butterfly (2:30.00).
Kylie
Warne won three individual events for Campbell with victories
in the 200 butterfly (2:28.69), 400 free (4:39.27) and the 200 IM
(2:27.71). Warne has now placed in the top-three of an individual
event 21 times with 13 victories.
Warne was also part of the 400 free relay team along with Campbell,
sophomore Kaitlyn
Tunstall and senior Ashlyn
Stumpf that won their event in a time of 4:15.10.
Stumpf had a strong individual meet for CU with a win in the 50
free (28.22) and second place rankings in both the 100 free
(1:02.38) and the 200 back (2:34.54).
Freshman Virginia
Dailey placed second in the 200 IM (2:30.45) and 200 free
(2:12.75). She finished third in the 50 free (28.94) and was also
part of the 200 medley relay team along with freshman Kaitlyn
Burnette, junior Emily
Michael and Stumpf that won their event in a time of
2:06.95.
Fellow freshman Charlotte
Cornet finished tied for second in the 100 breast (1:19.65) and
second in the 200 breast (2:48.80).
Tunstall placed third in the 200 free (2:16.37), 200 breast
(2:35.96) and the 400 free (4:49.13).
Burnette finished third in the 100 back (1:09.94) and the 100
butterfly (1:08.67).
Michael tied her teammate Cornet for second in the 100 breast
(1:19.65).

The Camels will next return to the pool and travel to Wilmington,
N.C. to take on UNC Wilmington on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m.
