Ryann Torrero earns Big South Conference women's soccer weekly honors

Charlotte, N.C. - Ryann Torrero (Burbank, Calif.) has been named the BSC defensive player of the week, allowing just one goal in two matches last week at High Point and Liberty. Torrero recorded eight saves in two games last week, finishing with a .889 save percentage and 0.45 goals against average.

The redshirt junior held High Point scoreless in a double-overtime draw on Oct. 13, registering five saves on the night.  Against Liberty on Oct. 15, Torrero made three saves after giving up a first minute goal to lead the Camels to the 2-1 victory.

"Ryann has certainly worked very hard for the honor and we really feel she is on the cusp of becoming an elite keeper," head coach Todd Clark said. "She has played all but about eight minutes (this season) and has seen everything our conference has to offer as well as a road schedule that included two ranked ACC teams and come away with an exceptional season thus far."

During the first 15 matches of 2011, Torrero has earned all 15 starts, accumulating a 1.03 goals against average to go along with 64 saves thus far. Her five shutouts are currently tied for sixth all-time in program history for most goalkeeper solo shutouts in a single season.

Assistant coach Laurie Franklin, who handles the goalkeeper training for the CU women's soccer program, said "Ryann has worked extremely hard in the offseason, always maintaining a great attitude and I'm glad she is getting this recognition that she has been very deserving of this year."

Torrero and her teammates return to play on Thursday night, hosting Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. The Camels (10-3-2, 4-0-2 BSC) will be looking to improve on an eight-match unbeaten streak.
