BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Belmont posted a 10-2 run midway through the
second half and held Campbell to 33 percent shooting for the game
to defeat the Lady Camels 54-45 in Atlantic Sun women's basketball
action Saturday afternoon inside the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation
Center.
The Lady Camels fall to 10-14 on the season with a 9-6 A-Sun mark,
while Belmont improves to 8-17 and 5-11 in league action.
Sophomore forward Jazmine
Cooper led Campbell with 16 points and 10 rebounds, her first
double-double of the season and second of her career. The
Fayetteville, N.C. native tied her career-best with 16 points, set
in the Lady Camels' last game (at Kennesaw State Feb. 7). Cooper
added three steals and two blocks in the loss.
Tonisha
Baker, a sophomore guard, joined Cooper in double figures with
12 points and seven rebounds, adding three assists. Lauren
Yesh and Ashley
James both tacked on six points apiece for Campbell.
Rachael Swisher, a senior forward, led Belmont with nine points on
4-of-7 shooting, while Tereva Moore and Molly Ernst both collected
eight on the afternoon. Moore posted five rebounds while Ernst
tallied four assists in the win.
After taking a 33-21 lead into the half, Belmont extended its
advantage to 13 at the 18:22 mark with a Moore lay-in, 35-22.
Cooper, however, sparked a 15-7 run from the Lady Camels, who
trimmed the Bruin lead to 42-37 with 9:46 remaining.
Belmont answered with its own run over the next five minutes,
extending the lead back to 13 with a 10-2 spurt. Moore capped the
run at the 4:49 mark with a pair of free throws.
Campbell ended the game on a 6-2 spurt, going 2-for-5 from the
floor with one turnover, but Belmont took the 54-45 win.
Cooper powered the Lady Camels to a 13-8 lead by the 9:54 mark in
the opening half, posting CU's first 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Campbell, however, suffered a 5:27 drought on the offensive end, as
the Bruins scored 10 unanswered to take an 18-13 advantage. Belmont
closed the half on a 23-9 run over the frame's last 10 minutes,
taking a 31-22 lead into the half.
The Lady Camels will host Lipscomb on Monday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
Monday's contest will be Campbell's "Pink Zone" game, raising
breast cancer awareness on the court, across campus and in the
community. Campbell will donate ¾ of its profits from
Monday's game to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Campbell has lost four of its last six games since winning

moving the senior forward into fourth on the all-time appearances
