BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Fifteen standouts from Campbell's storied men's soccer history have been named to the 1960s All-Decade team in a poll of school officials, coaches and alumni.

The first of five all-decade teams includes Campbell's initial men's soccer All-American, Richard Murphy, as well as nine Camel players who earned All-South region honors.

In the 1960s, Campbell quickly grew from a start-up program in 1963 to one that qualified for the first of three NAIA national tournaments in 1969.  The team won only 2 matches in its first varsity campaign, but quickly emerged as a power in the South Region.  The 1966 club registered an 8-4-1 record to start a string of 11-straight winning seasons for the Camels.

Under the direction of head coach Jim "Catfish" Cole, a future Campbell and North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, the Camels won a school-record (NAIA era) record 16 games in 1969 and placed fifth in the national tournament.

Throughout the 2012 campaign, Campbell's 50th year of varsity men's soccer competition, all-decade teams will be announced.

The "Golden Season" celebration will be highlighted by an alumni gathering around Homecoming weekend, Oct. 19-20.  A golf outing for Campbell men's soccer alumni and friends will take place at Keith Hills Country Club on Fri., Oct. 19.

One day later, the Men's Soccer Alumni Game will kick-off at 11:00 a.m. at the Eakes Athletic Complex.  Following lunch, the 2012 varsity will square off against Presbyterian at 3:30 p.m.  At half-time of the Homecoming match, all Campbell men's soccer alumni will be recognized.

Campbell continues its 50th men's soccer season on Tues., Oct. 2 when the Fighting Camels (6-2-1) host Virginia Tech in a 7:00 p.m. kick-off at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
