BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Trey Freeman scored 18 points and Campbell defeated Coker 71-65 in a men's basketball exhibition game Thursday at Gore Arena.
Darren White added 12 points and Marvelle Harris 11 for Campbell, which shot 51 percent from the floor and made only 6 turnovers.
Julian Nelson led Coker with 21 points, 17 in the first half, while Austin Harper added 15 and Errick Bethel 13. Sharod Williams pulled down 11 rebounds for the Cobras.
Campbell built a 12-point lead in the opening period thanks to an 11-0 run. However, Coker answered with a 10-0 stretch and led 39-37 at half-time.
Harper hit his first five shots of the second half and Julian Nelson made a jumper to give Coker at 52-51 lead with 10:48 remaining.
Antwon Oliver responded with a two-handed slam on a back-door feed from Reco McCarter that sparked an 8-1 stretch to give the Camels the lead for good.
Campbell held the Cobras to only one field goal, Bethel's long 3 from the left wing, over the final 3:00. The Camels finished the game with a 15-6 advantage in points off turnovers and held Coker to 44 percent shooting.
The Camels open the regular season next Friday (Nov. 9) with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at home against Averett.
