Box Score NORFOLK, VA.-Tyler Heinike accounted for eight touchdowns to lead No. 6 Old Dominion past visiting Campbell 70-14 Saturday night at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
ODU moves to 3-0 on the season, while the Camels fall to 1-2 overall. The Camels fall to 0-2 all-time against ranked opponents with the loss. In 2010, the Camels nearly upset No. 22 Jacksonville on the road, falling to the Dolphins 31-24 after leading 17-14 at the half.
The Monarchs lead the all-time series 4-0 against the Camels.
Heinike ended the night with 486 yards and seven touchdowns passing, posting a 21-for-29 clip. The sophomore added 41 yards and another score on the ground.
Blair Roberts hauled in three touchdown passes for the Monarchs with 69 yards, while Tyree Lee, Angus Harper, Larry Pinkard and Antonio Vaughan also added scores through the air. Nick Mayers led all receivers with four catches for 87 yards.
Taylor Harvey paced the Monarchs with nine carries for 76 yards, while Colby Goodwyn added 59 yards and a touchdown.
Junior quarterback Dakota Wolf, making his first career start under center, led Campbell with 22 carries for 101 yards, adding a touchdown. The Stanley, Va. native added 56 yards passing on an 8-of-16 clip.
Junior running back Kurt Odom added another score on the ground, gathering 53 yards on 12 carries for the game. Freshman Dalton Dillon tacked on 27 yards rushing. Jonathan Rogers led all Campbell receivers with 33 yards, while Odom chipped in 16.
The Camels registered their first 200 yard rushing game of the season in the loss, posting 214 on the night.
Lucas Smith paced the Campbell defense with nine tackles, while Matt Farris notched eight and a pass breakup. Colten Burris, Steth Monroe and Paul Pizzuti all gathered seven stops, while freshman Dwan Hanshaw made six tackles. Isaac Scott also picked up a sack and a forced fumble.
Alex Johnson led ODU with six tackles, while Caleb Taylor posted five tackles, including one of the Monarchs' five sacks.
Heinike collected 367 passing yards in the first half, going 15-for-19 with four touchdowns. The sophomore added another 41 yards and a touchdown on the ground in the opening half, leading the Monarchs to a 42-14 halftime lead.
Two Heinike touchdown passes found sophomore wideout Blair Roberts, who gathered 29 yards. Nick Mayers also hauled in three passes for 74 yards. Colby Goodwyn tacked on 43 yards rushing and a touchdown in the half.
Campbell's Dakota Wolf posted 66 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in the first half, with the junior quarterback adding 53 yards on 6-of-8 attempts through the air. Junior running back Kurt Odom registered 49 yards and a score on six carries.
Trailing 28-0 in the second quarter, Taurean Lynch recovered an ODU fumble, forced by the Isaac Scott sack, 35 yards to the three-yard line. The play set up a three-yard punch in from Kurt Odom, his second of the season.
After another Old Dominion score, Wolf broke open for a 27 yard scamper into the endzone for the junior's first career touchdown. All 75 yards of the seven play drive came on the ground, with Wolf and Odom accounting for 63 combined.
The Camels will open up Pioneer Football League play next week, heading to Indianapolis, Ind. for a noon matchup at Butler. Campbell returns home on Sept. 29, hosting Drake.
