INDIANAPOLIS, IND.-Trae Heeter rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns to move Butler past Campbell 35-14 Saturday afternoon in the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams.
The Bulldogs pull even to 2-2 on the season with a 1-0 PFL mark, while the Camels fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference games.
Heeter ran the ball 21 times, leading the Bulldogs' 284-yard rushing attack. Matt Lancaster added 61 yards on the ground with two scores, posting 168 yards passing. Lancaster went 15-for-21 through the air with a touchdown.
Jordan Ridley paced the Bulldogs with 17 tackles, while Phillip Powell gathered 10 stops.
Quarterback Dakota Wolf paced Campbell with a career-high 111 yards on 31 carries, both CU quarterback records. Wolf's 31 attempts are the second-most in Campbell football history. The junior is also the first Campbell quarterback to run for 100 yards in back-to-back games.
Kurt Odom tacked on 32 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while Chad McMichael caught six passes for 45 yards. Jordan Hildreth hauled in four passes for 58 yards for the Camels.
Senior Paul Pizzuti paced the Campbell defense with a career-high 12 tackles, adding a fumble recovery in the loss. Colten Burris, Dwan Hanshaw and Lucas Smith all registered six tackles for the Camels.
The Camels drove down to the Butler 19 with their first possession, paced by two catches from Chad McMichael and 23 rushing yards from Dakota Wolf, but stalled on fourth down, giving the ball to the Bulldogs after a 10-play, 47-yard, 10:49 drive.
Trae Heeter's 64 yards on five carries on Butler's first drive ended with a seven yard score on the ground from the junior, giving the Bulldogs the early 7-0 lead with 8:35 to play in the first quarter.
After a Campbell 40-yard field goal attempt strayed wide right in the second quarter, the Bulldogs punched in another score, as Matt Lancaster found Derek O'Connor for the three-yard touchdown pass with 4:54 remaining in the half.
The Camels hit pay dirt late in the half, with Kurt Odom going in untouched on the right side after the Dakota Wolf pitch. The score was set up by the 36-yard pass to the Butler one from Wolf to Jordan Hildreth after five of eight plays were on the ground for Campbell. The score cut the Butler lead to 14-7 at the break.
The Bulldogs added two more scores in the third frame, with Lancaster's nine-yard run, followed by Heeter's 79-yard touchdown scamper. Lancaster added another scoring run with 2:20 to go in the contest, a 45-yard touchdown rush.
The Camels return home on Sept. 29, hosting PFL rival Drake at 6 p.m.
