BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's Kurt Odom has been named First Team All-Pioneer Football League and seven Camels earned honorable mention accolades on the 2013 conference squads.
Odom, a senior from Robbinsville, N.C., was named to the PFL's First Team at fullback, becoming the fifth Camel to earn the league's top team status.
Brian Hudson (quarterback), Dalton Brown (offensive line), Will Sawyer (offensive line), Ugonna Awuruonye (defensive line), Matt Farris (linebacker), Adam Lutz (punter) and Jordan Hildreth (return specialist) were named to the honorable mention list.
Odom, a 2013 semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's National Scholar-Athlete Awards, posted the second most all-purpose yards in school history with 907 in 2013, ranking second on the team in rushing (537) and third in receiving yards (370). Odom rushed for a season-best 91 yards and two touchdowns at Valparaiso, and caught four passes for a school record 117 yards and two touchdowns against Jacksonville
The senior, who also played two seasons on the CU baseball team during his time in Buies Creek, was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the second time in 2013, and made the FCS ADA Academic All-Star team and College Sports Journal's FCS All-Academic squad in 2012. Odom is also a two-time First Team Academic All-PFL and three-time PFL Academic Honor Roll member.
Among Campbell career leaders, Odom ranks first in touchdowns scored all-time, third all-time in rushing, fifth in receiving yards, seventh in total offense, second in all-purpose yards, second in points scored and second in blocked kicks.
Brian Hudson earned honorable mention All-PFL status in his lone season as a Camel, setting program single-season records for rushing yards (884), pass completions (183), passing yards (2,184), passing touchdowns (15), total offense (3,068) and all-purpose yards (911).
The senior transfer from Liberty ranked sixth in the PFL in rushing and total offense, setting a school quarterback record with 168 yards rushing against Morehead State, and posting Campbell's longest run from scrimmage, 80 yards, against Jacksonville. Hudson also recorded 340 yards passing against Marist and 33 completions against Mercer, both school records.
CU center Dalton Brown and left guard Will Sawyer also picked up honorable mention nods on the offensive line for the Camels, helping Campbell rank second in the PFL in rushing offense at 233.2 yards per game. The Camels ran for more than 200 yards five times in 2013, including a school record 513 in a win over UVa.-Wise. CU also passed for more than 275 yards four times. Behind Brown and Sawyer, the Camels set 19 offense team records, including yards rushing (2,565) and passing (2,276). The pair started all 12 games for Campbell.
Ugonna Awuruonye, a transfer from Towson, was an All-PFL honorable mention in his first season with the Camels, the Charlotte, N.C. native tallied a school record for most yards from tackles for loss (83) and picked up the second most tackles for loss (14.0) and sacks (7.0) in a single season despite only playing in eight games. The redshirt sophomore led the PFL in tackle for loss and stops by a defensive lineman, while ranking eighth in sacks in conference games.
Matt Farris, an honorable mention at linebacker, led Campbell in tackles and finished 21st in the PFL with 77. The redshirt junior added 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and a forced fumble, tying a school record with 14 tackles against Charleston Southern. Farris added two tackles for loss with a sack against PFL co-champion Marist and intercepted a pass in Campbell's win over UVa.-Wise.
After earning Second Team All-PFL accolades in 2012, junior punter Adam Lutz, is an honorable mention recipient this season. Lutz posted a 41.7 yard per punt average in 2013, ranking second in the PFL. The junior pinned 10 punts inside the 20 and seven for more than 50 yards. Lutz also forced 18 fair catches and booted a long of 68 yards.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Jordan Hildreth rounds out Campbell recognition with an honorable mention pickup as a return specialist. Hildreth was the Camels' top punt returner in 2013, returning 11 punts for a 12.8 per attempt average. The Wadesboro, N.C. native was named National Punt Returner of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards on Oct. 13 after taking a 44-yard return back for a touchdown at PFL co-champion Butler.
