Presley's Double-Double Leads Lady Camels over CSU, 65-55

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior forward Roslyn Presley (Petersburg, Va.) eclipsed personal-bests in points with 20 and rebounds with 11 for first-career double-double as the Campbell women's basketball team topped Charleston Southern, 65-55, on Saturday afternoon inside the Buc Dome.

Campbell improved to 19-9 on the campaign and 11-6 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern fell to 8-17 and 3-13 on its senior night.

Bench scoring was vital for the Lady Camels as 35 of their 55 points came from secondary sources, led by Presley. Junior guard Jessica Moore (Jacksboro, Tenn.) was 3-for-3 from behind the arc for a season-high nine points, while classmate Heather Beadle (Austin, Texas) added six.

Another key for Campbell was rebounding as it posted a +20 differential, the most in a league game for the team, with 48 boards. Nine rebounds were registered by junior Ashley James and sophomore Kiera Gaines (Mechanicsville, Va.).

Balanced scoring was seen by the Lady Camels with each player notching at least five points. Totaling eight points was senior guard Tonisha Baker (High Point, N.C.) followed by Gaines with six, while five points were tallied by freshman RaeChaun Edwards (Spring Grove, Va.) and James.

The Lady Camels extended their 20-plus turnover streak to nine games, while generating 12 steals. A career-best seven steals was posted by Edwards and Baker added five. Campbell totaled 20 points off turnovers.

Charleston Southern drilled 10 three-point field goals as Erin Bratcher was 5-of-11 for 15 points. Leading the Lady Bucs was Lakeitha Alson with 16 points. Shay Jones also hit double-digits with 10 points.

Neither team was able to pull away through the first 10 minutes as the contest was tied at 17. The Lady Camels went inside for scoring, while the Lady Bucs nailed five treys.

Charleston Southern would take its largest lead of the game at 21-17 with 7:22 remaining. A three by Moore ignited a Lady Camels charge that built an eight-point lead, 29-21, with 43 seconds left in the frame.

The advantage was cut to 29-27 on back-to-back three pointers for the Lady Bucs.

In the second half, Presley came alive, scoring 16 points for Campbell on 6-of-9 shooting and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe, while grabbing eight boards.

A pivotal 4-0 run for the Lady Camels came from Spry, who hit two jumpers in three possessions to build the first 10-point lead, 44-34, with 12:23 remaining. Charleston Southern had a difficult time cutting into the advantage as the Campbell offense continued to convert on its possessions.

The Lady Camels took their largest lead of the contest, 56-43, at 5:44 on two made free throws by Edwards. Free throws were the final piece of the puzzle as Campbell connected on 17-of-24 attempts at the charity stripe.

Campbell completes the regular season at High Point on Thursday at 7 p.m. The VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championships runs from Mar. 5-10 with matchups to be announced on Mar. 2.
