BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Roslyn Presley scored seven of Campbell's nine overtime points, while Kiera Gaines notched 12 rebounds and 12 assists to help the Lady Camels to a 77-74 win over Winthrop Thursday in Gore Arena.
Campbell improved to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in the Big South, while Winthrop moved to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in the league.
Presley finished with 22 points, leading all scorers. Gaines fell short of the triple-double, with 12 rebounds and assists, adding nine points. The 12 rebounds pushed her career total to 509, becoming the 20th Lady Camel to eclipse that milestone in program history.
Presley opened extra time with two field goals in a row, putting CU up by four. She followed with a free throw and another jumper to tack on three more points, giving the Lady Camels the 75-68 advantage. The Eagles answered with four points before RaeChaun Edwards converted a layup after the 21st Eagle turnover of the night.
Samiya Wright's jumper with 37 seconds to go brought WU within three, but the Lady Camels held on for their sixth conference win.
CU trailed 14-8 with 14:05 to go in the first. The teams combined for nine turnovers in the first six minutes, with Campbell owning six. In the paint, the Eagles had the 12-2 margin, as Campbell shot 3-for-8 overall. Gaines led the Lady Camels with six points after going 2-2 from behind the arc.
The Eagles' largest lead, 28-21, was eight at the 8:08 mark in the first. WU held the lead the entire half until Edwards tied the game at 34 with a three-pointer. Erica Williams answered with two points to put the Eagles up by two, the last WU lead of the half.
Presley tied the game with 1:58 to go, getting fouled on her way up. She missed the bonus point, but Gaines snagged the rebound to maintain possession. Presley drained a jumper at the line off a Gaines assist to give the Lady Camels their first lead of the game 45-40.
Forty-one seconds before intermission, Gaines notched her third three-pointer of the night, taking CU to the locker room with a 41-38 lead.
The Lady Camels opened the half with a 13-4 run to extend their lead to 10, the largest of the game at 54-44. During the seven-minute stretch, Ashley James notched five points, while Brown and Edwards each tacked on a three.
Winthrop answered with its own run of 18-8 over 10 minutes, taking the 65-62 lead with two minutes to go.
With 1:39 left on the clock, Presley drove to the basket and drew the foul, converting one of two free throws.
After an Eagle turnover, James tied the game at 65 with a layup, her fifth basket of the game.
On the ensuing WU drive, Dequesha McClanahan missed the jumper, and Edwards nailed a three from the left corner, putting the Lady Camels up 68-65 with 4.9 seconds to go in regulation.
Wright answered with a three of her own with two seconds left, sending the game into overtime.
James finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Edwards tacked on 11 points and five steals. D Brown's 12 points all came from beyond the arc. She also dished five assists and added five steals.
CU's 15 steals and 28 assists marked new season highs.
The Lady Camels return to action Saturday in a 5:00 p.m. matchup at Radford. They return to Buies Creek Thursday, hosting Longwood in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
