Box Score (pdf)

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Jerome Hill scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Gardner-Webb to a 66-48 win over Campbell Saturday night at Paul Porter Arena.

Naji Hibbert added 11 points and Donta Harper 10 for the Bulldogs (10-11, 3-3 Big South), who shot 45 percent from the floor, and made eight more free throws (16-22) than the Camels attempted (6-8).

Andrew Ryan led the Camels (10-11, 4-2) with 14 points, Reco McCarter added 11 and Antwon Oliver 10 for CU, which made just 1-of-19 three-pointers in the final stanza.  Leek Leek had a career-high five blocks, all in the opening period.

Gardner-Webb finished with a 43-28 advantage on the boards and outscored the Camels 38-22 in the paint.

"We just started off very slow and couldn't get into any kind of rhythm at all," said Campbell head coach Kevin McGeehan.  "We didn't do a good job of being patient on offense.  I think our guys know that we're better than we played tonight."

The Bulldogs led by 4 at the break (30-26) and by 44-37 when McCarter scored on a stick back with 8:51 to go.  However, the Camels were unable to draw any closer as GWU made 13-of-16 free throws in the final stanza.

On the night, Campbell hit just 32.7 percent (18-55) of its shots, 6-of-29 (.207) beyond the arc.

Gardner-Webb used an early 15-4 burst and led 25-8 when Tyrell Nelson scored underneath with 9:38 to play in the half.  CU trailed 10-0 from the outset and made just 3 of its first 11 shots, while GWU connected on 9-of-18.

However, a 3-point barrage started when Antwon Oliver connected from the left wing to begin a 14-2 Camel burst.  Andrew Ryan made a pair of triples and Reco McCarter hit from the top of the key to trim the Gardner-Webb lead to 27-22.

The Bulldogs led 30-26 at half-time, hitting 12-28 from the floor and converting 9 offensive rebounds into a 9-2 edge in 2nd-chance points.  CU made 6 of its last 9 shots in the opening half, 9-20 for the period, and hit 5-of-10 threes before the break.

The Camels return home next Wednesday (Jan. 29) to face Charleston Southern (7:00 p.m.).
