BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Senior forward Tyler Hood scored 16 points to lead Samford to a 65-56 victory over Campbell Sunday afternoon at the Pete Hanna Center.
Hood shot 54 percent from the field and went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe for the Bulldogs.
Freshman guard Troy Harper scored a season-high 18 points Sunday afternoon but it wasn't enough to stifle the Bulldogs. Junior forward D.J. Mason added 12 points off the bench for the Camels. Mason shot three-of-three from the field in the first half and finished five-of-eight for the game.
Harper and Mason combined for 30 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Camels.
"We had a couple close looks," head coach Kevin McGeehan said. "We started to get going but we had some bad turnovers. We didn't shoot well; we have to give them credit, they pressured well."
The Bulldogs led by as many as 15 points with 8:11 remaining in the second half, but the Camels stormed back and cut the lead to four with a triple from Harper with 2:15 remaining in the game.
Campbell outscored the Bulldogs 38-28 in bench scoring; Samford outscored the Camels 42-18 in the paint.
With the loss, Campbell (6-7) breaks its three-game winning streak falling to 6-7 this season. The team shot 38.6 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from the three-point arc.
Samford (6-8) extended its winning streak to three games with the win. The Bulldogs shot 62.5 percent from the field.
The Camels will return to action Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they open up Big South Conference play against Liberty.
