DeLand, Fla. – A six-run eigth inning led Stetson to a 7-1 softball victory over Campbell Friday in the Hatter Invitational. Stetson victory was their fourth win in four attempts this season, and the loss for Campbell drops them to an overal record of 2-3.
Meredith Owen (3-0) pitched in relief for the Hatters earning her third victory of the season. Owen threw four shutout innings scattering two hits, striking out five.
Katie Baker (1-1) took the loss for Campbell, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits, walking five and striking out 11. The lady Camels did set a new school record for most strikeouts in a game with 13.
Campbell was led offensively by Milly Martinet, who hit a solo homerun in the second inning. The long ball was the first for Milly Martinet as a Camel.
Stetson second baseman Jessie TenBroeck set the pace offensively going three-for-four and driving in three.
The Hatters scored once in the first inning via two singles by TenBroeck and Chrissy Morello.
Campbell answered Stetson's run in bottom of the second with a homerun by freshman Martinet.
Baker got out of a one-out, bases loaded jam by striking out two Stetson hitters in the top of the third inning.
The game was scoreless until the six-run eighth inning by Stetson. The bases were loaded after two singles, TenBroeck hit a bases clearing triple to give Stetson the lead.
Campbell takes on Elon Saturday at 11 a.m. and then closes out the tournament against Stetson at 4 p.m.
