CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – Campbell fell to Tennessee Tech (6-5) in nine innings and to Austin Peay (8-7) in eight innings on Saturday in the Chattanooga Frost Classic.
Katie Baker struck out 11 and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but Tennessee Tech defeated Campbell 6-5 in a nine innings at the Frost Classic.
Baker's pitched seven innings allowing two hits, two walks, four runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out 11. Morgan Eisenga pitched two innings in relief giving up three hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out three. She was tabbed with the loss bringing her record to 1-1 on the season and Campbell's to a 7-5 overall mark.
Tennessee Tech's Danielle Liberatore threw nine innings allowing eight hits, five runs (three earned), walking three and striking out 13. Laberatore's win gives her a record of 2-3 and Tennessee Tech a record of 4-7.
Campbell was led offensively in the game by Stephanie Jones, Ericka Nesbitt, Milly Martinet who each had two hits.
Tennessee Tech was led by its leadoff batter Kendall Hooper who had one hit and drove in two in her five plate appearances.
The game was scoreless through five and a half innings before Campbell broke the tie. Ericka Nesbitt singled and advanced to second, when Martinet singled scoring Nesbitt to give CU a 1-0 lead heading into the seventh.
Tennessee Tech plated a run in the top of the seventh and Campbell did not answer sending the game into extra innings.
Tennessee Tech scored three in the top of the eighth inning, Campbell trailed 4-1. The Camels answered with a run, and then a two-run homerun by Martinet tied the game at four going into the top of the ninth.
Tennessee Tech scored two runs in the top half of the ninth inning. Campbell scored one run in the ninth, but could not tie the game.
Game 2
Courtney Klinger and Stephanie Jones combined for five hits in 8-7 loss to Austin Peay Saturday at the Frost Classic of Chattanooga. The loss for Campbell moves its record to 7-6 overall, while the win for Austin Peay improves its record to 4-9 on the season.
The winning pitcher for Austin Peay was Brainna Bartuccio, who allowed one hit and no runs in one inning of relief.
Olivia Scarborough took the loss for Campbell pitching 3.2 innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned) one walk and a strikeout.
CU at the plate was led by Klingler who went three-for-four. Jones, Scarborough and Brittany Bruce collected two hits in the game.
Austin Peay scored a run in the first inning and then scored twice in the third. The Camels tallied a run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the fifth inning Austin Peay scored three more runs to take its lead to 6-1. Campbell answered with a three runs in their half of the inning. The second and third run for CU came off of a two run homerun delivered by Scarborough cutting the lead to 6-4.
Austin Peay held the lead 6-4 going to the bottom of the sixth. Campbell pushed across two runs to even the game at 6-6.
Austin Peay then scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning; Campbell scored one run falling 8-7.
Campbell closes the Frost Classic Tournament Sunday at 1:30 p.m.against Chattanooga.
