Box Score CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina used three 3-0 runs Sunday to take the 14-10 win over Campbell in the teams' Big South opener at Brooks Stadium.
Sophomore Loren Day led the Camels (4-4, 0-1) for the third-straight game with three goals and added three assists.
The Chanticleers (3-7, 1-0) led CU in shots, 30-21, and in draw controls, 21-5.
Campbell jumped to the 2-0 lead, its largest of the game, in the opening eight minutes with goals from freshman Maddy Dolinar and Day.
After the teams traded a goal each, Coastal went on an eight-minute three goal sprint to take the 4-3 lead with 11:25 to go.
Freshman Erin O'Hara broke the run, netting her first career goal with 10:05 left before halftime to knot the score at four, the closest CU came to leading the remainder of the game.
The Chants answered with another 3-0 run to go up 7-4 before senior Taelar Errington scored the fifth CU goal off a Kaki Armiger assist with 5:07 to go before the break.
Coastal's Charlotte O'Leary kicked off the third and final three-goal run for the Chants with 1:15 left in the first half. She scored one of five CCU free position goals in the tear that wrapped around both halves. The run resulted in a 10-5 Chanticleer lead six minutes into the second half, the largest margin of the game.
Campbell outscored Coastal 5-4 in the remainder of the second half, three times closing the CCU lead to three.
Senior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer made 12 saves on the day, picking up five ground balls and causing one turnover.
Campbell committed a season-low 10 turnovers to Coastal's 16, but fouled 42 times to the Chants' 19.
The Camels kick off a three-game homestand Friday, hosting Liberty at 7 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium.
