FARMVILLE, Va. - Freshman Summer Price scored a career-high 22 points, including 16 in the second half, as Campbell rallied for a 65-58 victory against Longwood inside Willett Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 52-47 with 5:18 to play, Campbell pieced together a 14-0 run to emerge with a 61-52 advantage with just 26 seconds left on the clock. Eight of Price's 22 points came during the decisive run.
The Lady Camels move to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in Big South play with the victory, its second on the road in conference play this season.
After shooting just 29 percent in the first half, Campbell came out of the break hot and knocked down 15 of its 26 attempts (57.7 percent) from the field in the second half, finishing the game shooting 42.1 percent (24-of-57).
On defense, the Lady Camels held the Lancers to just 32.3 percent (20-of-62) shooting from the field for the contest.
Price led all scorers with her 22 points, and she was joined in double figures by sophomore Amanda Coffer (15), senior Summer Leverette (11) and senior Kiera Gaines (11). Coffer also led the Lady Camels with nine rebounds, while Gaines pitched in six steals and six assists.
Raven Williams led Longwood with 16 points, and Deborah Headen gave the Lancers a duo in double figures with 12 of her own.
Neither side could create an advantage of more than five points over the first eight minutes, but Headen's three-pointer at the 11:24 mark gave the Lancers an early 18-11 lead over the Lady Camels.
Despite the early hole, Campbell battled back, scoring six unanswered points over a two and a half minute span to make it a single-possession game, trailing 22-19 after a layup by junior Jessica Pone with 6:12 left in the half.
That three-point advantage for Longwood would hold through the halftime break as the two sides entered the locker room with a score of 24-21.
Longwood jumped out to a six-point lead on two occasions early in the second half, but the Lady Camels fought back to grab their first lead since Coffer's opening layup with 15:40 remaining. Gaines broke free for a fastbreak layup to put Campbell ahead 32-31, part of a quick 7-0 spurt by the Lady Camels.
The game remained a one-possession contest until a pair of free throws from Longwood's Jaclyn Reagan made it 49-44 in favor of the Lancers at the 6:20 mark, setting the stage for Campbell's late rally.
Price contributed eight points during the late run, Coffer chipped in four and senior Juli Osborne knocked down two free throws as Campbell seized control of the contest late.
Campbell will remain on the road in conference play as the Lady Camels travel to High Point on Monday for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The team will be looking to avenge a 73-69 defeat against the Panthers in last season's Big South Championships semifinals.
