Camels finish off a perfect 4-0 weekend at Dolphin Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Highlighted by a home runs from freshmen Lia Batchelor and Chandler Patterson, the Camels (10-5) took down both the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 4-3, and the Savannah State Tigers, 11-5,  during the Dolphin Classic at the Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex on Sunday.

Game One

Sophomore Katie Baker (6-1) pitched a complete game, striking out five and only allowing one run until the seventh inning when the Wildcats were able to capitalize off of a double by Abilene's Taylor Brown to score Brianna Barnhill.

Baker finished the first game allowing nine hits, three runs, struck out seven, and only walked one batter.

Abilene Christian's Emily Seidel (2-6) suffered her sixth loss allowing 10 hits, four runs, had one error, and wasn't able to strike out any of Campbell's hitters.

Batchelor wasn't the only one with a home run for the Camels, as Stephanie Jones struck first by hitting one out of the park in the bottom of the third to put the Camels ahead 1-0. Jones finished the first game with two hits in her three plate appearances, and also scored two runs and had one RBI.

Lia Batchelor's two-run bomb to left field came during the bottom of the fifth to score both herself and freshman Chandler Patterson, who had two hits against the Wildcats.

Abilene Christian attempted a comeback during the seventh inning, but ultimately came up short after a two-run inning to bring them within one run.

Baker, Patterson, and Jones each had two hits during the game, while four other Camels were able to contribute singles in the win over the Wildcats.

Game Two

The Camels routed the Savannah State Tigers (3-6) during the final game of the Dolphin Classic, in a game that featured 11 runs off of 14 hits, with a final score of 11-5.

After striking out 11 hitters on Friday against the Abilene Christian Wildcats, Julia Callicutt (3-1) was once again able to come in and pitch three perfect innings before only allowing one run during the fourth when Tiger's Torrian Wright was able to score off of a sacrifice bunt.

Wright was effective at the plate for the Tigers, saving Savannah State from the run rule, when she hit a three-run homer right over the left center field when the Camels were within one run of forcing the game to end early.

Before Wright's home run, the Camels had an 8-1 lead. With that being said, Callicutt was able to limit the Tigers to only two hits through four innings, struck out four batters, and walked four more.

Lia Batchelor was perfect at the plate against the Tigers, plating both times in her at bats, including a double. Katie Baker, Ericka Nesbitt, and Stephanie Jones also each had doubles at some point in the game.

Pitcher Courtney Roberts (3-2) was able to come into the game for Callicutt and earn her second save of the season, finishing with five runs off of four hits due in part to Wright's triple home run. Roberts struck out four as well.

With the Camels leading 3-1, freshman Chandler Patterson drove her fifth home run of the season over the left field fence, and was credited with four runs batted in directly after Brittany Bruce and Kerstine Womack had already plated two runs right before to make it a six-run fifth inning for the Camels.

Jones and Nesbitt would add on two more runs in the top of the seventh for the Camels after Nesbitt was able to advance to third on a wild pitch. Batchelor's double then pushed both runners home.

Amanda Hallman (1-3) pitched a full game for the Tigers, allowing 11 runs, 14 hits, committing five errors, walking six batters, and striking out only three of Campbell's hitters.
