ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Campbell men's tennis upset No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina, 4-3, Monday afternoon in the semifinal round of the 2015 Men's Tennis Big South Tournament, hosted by UNC Asheville at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Camels advance to their second consecutive Big South Tournament final and will look to claim thier fifth Big South Championship.
No. 4 seeded Campbell moves to 14-9 overall this season while the Chanticleers fall to 12-6. Coastal Carolina defeated the Camels earlier this season, 6-1 on April 10 in Conway, S.C.
Coastal Carolina took the first two of three completed singles matches of the afternoon to keep the score knotted at 2-2 but the Camels closed out the match with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions.
Senior Marthinus Visser closed out the first singles match for Campbell, defeating Leme in straight sets, 6-4,6-4; fellow senior Adrien Rossignon required three sets, after falling in the first, to out-power Yedigarian, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Jonathan O'Neal downed Samed in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
The team will face the winner of the No. 2 seed Liberty and No. 3 seed Winthrop Tuesday at noon from the Asheville Racquet Club.
