Box Score CONWAY, S.C. - Rebecca Sheinfeld and Kayla Reilly fired hat tricks as Campbell rallied late in regulation to force overtime, but four unanswered Coastal Carolina goals in the extra frame were the difference as the Camels fell 15-11 in the Big South Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.
Campbell (5-13, 2-5) ends its third season with new program-best marks across the board, including 228 goals, 249 draw controls, 181 caused turnovers and 359 ground balls. The Camels also earned a pair of Big South victories for the second straight season.
Coastal Carolina (11-5, 5-2) advances to face Liberty in the Big South Semifinals in Rock Hill, S.C., on Friday evening.
In addition to Sheinfeld and Reilly's hat tricks on Tuesday, Hayley Carroll found the back of the net twice, while Erica Hitch, Kaki Armiger and Loren Day all tallied one goal for Campbell. Hitch finished with a team-high four points after notching a trio of assists on the evening as well.
Day and Armiger led all players with four draw controls apiece, and Kayla Reilly scooped up a game-high five ground balls.
In goal, Merredith Bechler played all but the final 1:47 of the contest while making seven saves. The sophomore wraps up the 2015 campaign with 153 stops, a Campbell single-season record. Bechler made double-digit saves six times this season and made at least six stops against each Big South opponent.
For the Chanticleers, Jen Cosgrove led all scorers with seven goals, while Keri White added four more scores, including the first two of the overtime period. Maggie Carr tallied two assists to lead Coastal Carolina.
Defensively, Nyra Constant forced three Campbell turnovers and Big South Defensive Player of the Year Maddy Ciardi caused two more for the Chanticleer defense. In goal, Jenna Stover played the full 66 minutes and made 10 saves.
After Cosgrove gave Coastal Carolina the early advantage off a free position attempt, two straight goals just 40 seconds apart from Kayla Reilly edged Campbell in front with 22:50 remaining in the opening frame.
The Chanticleers scored five of the next six goals to grab a 6-3 lead with just over 10 minutes to play in the half, but Sheinfeld's conversion on a free position goal and an unassisted strike by Hitch pulled the Camels back within a single goal.
A goal by Charlotte O'Leary temporarily gave Coastal Carolina a two-goal advantage, but Carroll's late score, coming with just nine seconds left, sent Campbell into the locker room trailing by just one, 7-6.
Coastal Carolina maintained its lead early in the second half, but Carroll's second strike of the day coming off a feed from Hitch brought the Camels level at 9-9 with 21:47 on the clock. The deadlock remained for the next four minutes until Cosgrove found the back of the net for the Chanticleers, followed by another goal from White to build an 11-9 lead with just 8:17 remaining.
Sheinfeld keyed Campbell's late rally in regulation, scoring both goals over the final three and a half minutes off assists from Hitch and Annie Cook to send the contest to overtime.
The Chanticleers netted all four goals in the overtime period, getting pair from White and another from Cosgrove to hold off Campbell's late charge.
