CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian forced three turnovers and Darrell Bridges rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns to top visiting Campbell 23-13 Saturday at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
PC picked up its first win of the season, improving to 1-2, while Campbell fell to 2-1.
Bridges carried 30 times, piling up 132 of PC's 148 yards on the ground, tacking on 42 yards receiving on two catches. Tamyn Garrick added 127 yards on 6-of-13 passing, while Marquel Hines hauled in 49 yards receiving.
De'Shawn Jones led the Camels with 89 yards on 18 carries. Kameron Bryant completed 9-of-18 passes with two interceptions, completing touchdown passes to Jared Joyner and Ricky Brown. Joyner posted 63 yards receiving, adding 39 yards on the ground.
After holding PC to missed field goal attempt to open the game, Campbell used just three plays to go 75 yards and take an early lead on a 53 yard touchdown pass from Kameron Bryant to Jared Joyner over the middle.
The ensuing extra point was blocked and returned Steve Osondu to make it 6-2 Camels.
The Blue Hose notched a pair of scores in the second to take a 16-6 lead into the half, with a Malik Risher run after an interception, followed by a Darrell Bridges 21 yard rushing TD.
Bridges punched another score in in the third after a CU fumble was returned to the CU one yard line, putting the Blue Hose up 23-6 with 4:56 on the clock.
The Camels cut the lead to 10 on Ricky Brown's acrobatic 26 yard touchdown catch over a PC defensive back with 12:03 remaining.
Campbell's final two possessions were stalled. The Camels were held to 1-of-12 third down conversions.
The Campbell defense limited PC to three missed field goals on the night, coming up empty twice in the first and again in the second quarter.
Donelle Williams led the Blue Hose with 11 tackles. Darius Norfleet gathered eight tackles with a sack.
Five Camels contributed to seven tackles for loss on the night, led by 2.0 from senior defensive end Dwan Hanshaw, who totaled five stops on the night. Jack Ryan owned a team-high eight tackles, while Daniel Bostick tallied seven.
Campbell will open Pioneer Football League play next week, Sept. 26 at Butler. The Camels return home on Oct. 3, hosting Drake.
