BUIES CREEK, N.C. --- Sarah Smith led three Lady Camels in double figures with 15 points and Campbell completed the season sweep of Coastal Carolina with a 73-52 victory on Saturday at Gore Arena. It was the Lady Camels' (8-12, 3-8 BSC) largest victory this season.
Jessica Pone tallied 12 points while Amanda Coffer added 10 points and six rebounds. Summer Price scored eight points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. RaeChaun Edwards also scored eight points while dishing out five assists and tallying two steals.
Campbell led wire-to-wire and led by as many as 27 before claiming the 19-point victory. The Lady Camels shot a season-high 53.1 percent from the field (26-for-49) and held Coastal Carolina (7-12, 2-8) to just 26.1 shooting from the field (18-for-69), also a season best. CU also held a 42-36 rebounding advantage.
Nicole Isaacs led all scorers with 23 points for the Chanticleers. Yasmin Miller tallied seven points while Dionne Parker pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Camels continued their recent trend of hot starts by jumping out to a 9-3 advantage three minutes into the contest. Later in the frame, CU's lead still stood at six before a pair of Price free throws pushed the advantage to 16-8 with two minutes left to play.
Campbell continued the offensive pressure and finished the first period on a 14-0 run and held the Chanticleers scoreless for the final 3:40 of the opening stanza. The Lady Camels also outscored CCU 22-5 after the opening two minutes and led 24-8 after one.
CU's lead grew to 31-10 on a Smith jumper early in the second period and the Lady Camels held a 37-14 advantage at the period's media timeout with 4:38 on the clock. A Smith layup gave CU its largest lead of the half at 39-14.
However, the Chanticleers responded with a 15-4 run for cut the lead to 43-28 with 12 seconds to play in the first half. Price capped the second period with a layup at six seconds to play as CU took a 43-28 lead to the halftime locker room.
An early three minute scoring drought in the third for the Chanticleers and a 7-0 run for the Lady Camels pushed CU's lead to 54-31 midway through the frame. Coastal was able to cut the deficit to 19 on an Olivia Carlton three pointer, but the Lady Camels ended the half with a quick 5-0 spurt with the help of an Edwards three and led 65-41 after three periods.
A Krystal Mangum layup gave the Lady Camels their largest lead of the game at 68-41 and a Tiffany Daniel jumper kept the lead at 27 two minutes later with a jumper. CCU cut the score to 19 one final time before Jewell Yarborough scored the game's final two points with 1:39 to play.
The Lady Camels will hit the road and head to Boiling Springs, North Carolina to take on Gardner-Webb on Monday Night. CU will be looking to avenge its loss to the Runnin' Bulldogs earlier this month.
