LYNCHBURG, VA. – John Dawson scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Liberty to a 55-52 win over Campbell Saturday at the Vines Center.

Campbell freshman Chris Clemons had two deep looks to tie in the final 20 seconds, but both came up short and the Camels (8-8, 2-4 Big South) lost their third-straight game.

Lovell Cabbil and Anthony Fields added 10 apiece for the Flames (5-13, 2-3), who won their second-consecutive outing.

Clemons led Campbell with 14 points and 3 steals. D.J. Mason and Troy Harper chipped in 11 points each for the Camels, who shot just 31 percent from the field and made 5-of-21 (.238) 3-pointers.  Campbell hit 17-of-23 (.739) from the line, but missed 5 of their last 9 from the stripe.

Liberty shot 46 percent from the floor (18-39) and finished with a 38-25 lead on the boards.

Campbell trailed 28-20 late in the first half, but wrapped a 12-2 run around the break and lead 32-30 on Shane Whitfield's tip-in with 17:19 remaining.  After Harper put the Camels ahead 34-32 with 16:50 to go, Liberty scored 8-straight points to build a 6-point edge (40-34) after Ezra Talbert scored in the paint.

The Camels trimmed the margin to 46-45 on Mason's basket with 5:26 left, but drew no closer.

The Flames hit 5-of-10 threes in the opening half and led 28-20 when A.C. Reid connected on a trey from the right wing with 2:55 left.  However, the Camels closed the period and a 7-1 flurry and trimmed the gap to 29-27 when D.J. Mason scored on a layup just before the horn.

Liberty shot 48 percent (10-21) in the opening half and held a 20-11 advantage on the boards.  Campbell made just 31 percent (8-26) of its first-half shots, 4-10 threes, and 7-8 from the line.

Campbell's three losses have come by a total of 13 points (70-63 vs. Presbyterian, 71-68 at Gardner-Webb).

The Camels return home Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip against Longwood (5-13, 1-4), which won its first league game Saturday, a 76-61 victory over Coastal Carolina.
