FARMVILLE, Va. --- Campbell led from wire-to-wire in a 73-56 victory at Longwood on Saturday night. Amanda Coffer led four Lady Camels (7-7, 2-3 BSC) in double figures with 18 points.
Bria Emanuel tallied her first career double-double with a career-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Smith scored 11 points, all coming in the second half. MaKala Rouse scored a career-high 10 points. RaeChaun Edwards finished with eight points and seven assists playing all 40 minutes of action.
An early fourth period bucket by Micaela Ellis brought Longwood (5-10, 2-4 BSC) back within single-digits of the lead at 53-44. However, Jessica Pone converted an old-fashioned three-point play to increase the Lady Camel lead to 56-44 with 8:19 to play in the game. Following an Emanuel free throw, the Lancers got as close to the lead since the first period on an Eboni Gillum jumper that cut the CU advantage to 61-53 with 3:57 to play.
Following that bucket, the Lady Camels held the Lancers scoreless for the next three minutes of action. CU forced three Longwood turnovers and four missed shots during that span. Smith hit a clutch jumper to increase the advantage to 65-53 with 2:19 to play while Edwards hit three free throws in the final three minutes. Emanuel hit an emphatic layup late in the contest as Campbell claimed the 17-point victory.
Daeisha Brown scored a game-high 19 points for the Lancers while Deborah Headen added 11. Gillum pulled down nine rebounds with six points and Ellis scored seven.
The first six points of the game went to Campbell as the Lancers called a timeout four minutes into the contest down 6-0. Longwood finally got on the scoreboard shortly after the break, but the Lady Camel lead sat at 13-5 following an Emanuel layup with 3:15 to pay in the first.
The Lancers cut the lead back to seven at 14-7 on a Headen layup with 1:17 to play in the first. However, Edwards and Caroline Bowns nailed three pointers in the final minute of the opening stanza to give the Lady Camels a 20-11 lead after one period. CU held LU to just 22 percent shooting in the first frame.
After an early three-point play by Coffer in the second, a 6-0 spurt by CU capped with back-to-back buckets by Rouse gave the Lady Camels a 29-14 lead with 5:20 to play in the second period. The Lady Camels took their largest lead of the half at 17 on a three pointer by Krystal Mangum that increased the advantage to 36-19 with 2:17 on the clock.
Longwood responded with the next five points to cut the deficit to 12 with 1:47 remaining in the first half. Following an Emanuel Layup, the Lancers closed the half on another 5-0 run to get back within single digits of the lead at 38-29 at the halftime break.
The Lady Camel lead grew back to double-digit with the help of four early third-period points from Rouse, but she and Coffer picked up their third fouls and were forced to sit. CU held a 46-33 lead midway through the third, and a Smith jumper kept the lead at 13 at 48-35 with 3:32 to play in the third.
Edwards found Smith and Qua Brown on a pair of layups late in the third as the Lady Camel lead grew to 50-35 with 2:19 on the clock. Following a Smith layup to push CU's lead to 14, Brown nailed a three pointer at the third period buzzer to cut the deficit to 53-42 heading to the fourth period.
The Lady Camels scored 36 points in the paint and capitalized on 16 Lancer turnovers with 17 points. The CU bench added 20 points.
Campbell will wrap-up its quick two-game Virginia swing on Monday night at Radford. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
