Box Score MOREHEAD, KY. – Campbell forced four turnovers and ran for 216 yards to top Morehead State 27-21 on the road in Pioneer Football League action Saturday at Jayne Stadium.
Campbell (5-4, 3-3 PFL) clinched at least a .500 season with the win, dropping Morehead State to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Facing a 7-7 stalemate at the half, the Camels reached the endzone twice in the third quarter to go up 20-7. Jaquan Brooks took a 40-yard Anthony Robbins toss and Kahlil Dixon punched in a three yard run ti give CU the advantage.
Both were first career touchdowns for the freshmen Camels.
Morehead State answered with a seven play, 74 yard scoring drive, capped by a Jake Sutherland 28-yard catch.
Aaron Blockmon's 90-yard catch, breaking away from the MSU defender and coasting in for his ninth receiving touchdown of the season, restored the two score lead for the Camels with 10:05 to go. Blockmon's grab was the longest play from scrimmage in Campbell's modern football history (since 2008).
Morehead State made it 27-21 with 6:18 to play on Lawson Page's touchdown run, but Campbell held on the Eagles' final two possessions, including a Greg Cunningham interception.
Blockmon posted 131 yards receiving with a touchdown on five catches, his fifth time over the century mark this season. He added 22 yards rushing in the win. The redshirt sophomore also became Campbell's single-season receptions leader, coming into the game tied with Preston Dodson's 2011 mark of 43.
Jared Joyner added 127 yards rushing with a first half touchdown, his second straight game over 100 yards on the ground. Dixon added a season-best 63 yards with a TD for the Camels. Coming into the day with six career carries, the freshman took 12 handoffs, including a 31 yard run to set up his third quarter touchdown.
Anthony Robbins completed 12-of-22 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns, adding 17 yards rushing.
Jack Ryan paced Campbell's defense with 10 tackles, including 2.0 for loss and a sack. Syd Holt also picked up six total stops with a sack for the Camels.
Ryan Bennett led the Eagles on the defensive side with a game-high 14 tackles, including 4.0 for loss.
Austin Gahafer passed for 364 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-38 attempts with an interception, completing passes to eight Eagle receivers.
Campbell controlled the time of possession 35:05 to 24:55. Both teams were 0-for-2 on field goal tries.
The Camels will close out the season hosting San Diego November 19 at noon.
