BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Behind a two-hit pitching performance from Courtney Roberts, Campbell softball picked up the series sweep against Bryant, Sunday afternoon, 2-1, at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Roberts pitched five innings for her third win of the season, allowing one run and striking out three. Katie Baker pitched the final two innings, picking up the save, allowing only one hit. Offensively, Melissa Tullar and Taesha DuBoise picked up multi-hit games for the Fighting Camels.
The Camels got on the board first, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Melissa Tullar hit a line drive double to right centerfield and advanced to third one batter later on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Karsen Leonhardt hit a single to centerfield that allowed Tullar to score and put Campbell ahead 1-0.
Leonhardt gained third base after DuBoise's bunt single and an Amber Schisler hit by pitch. Up next, Rachel McCollum was able to draw her first of two walks on the day, which allowed Leonhardt to score from third and keep the bases loaded.
Following a scoreless third inning, Bryant's Taylor Burger hit her first home run of the season, a solo hit to left center field, cutting the Campbell lead to one run, 2-1. Roberts was not rattled by the home run as she struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Campbell registered two more hits from the fourth inning on, including one in the bottom of the fourth and its final hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. Baker appeared in a relief effort for Campbell in the sixth inning, continuing the strong performance from Roberts, she allowed one hit while facing seven batters in the final two innings.
Roberts earned the win, while Baker picked up her first save of the season. Colby Norris went six innings for Bryant, allowing six hits and two runs in the loss. Campbell is 10-5 on the year following its 0-4 start at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Orange and Black look to build on their three-game winning streak as they return to action Tuesday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. against Northern Illinois.
