BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Dalton Mayberry went 4-for-5 and knocked in two to lead visiting Rider over Campbell 11-8 Tuesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
Rider (1-11) used a five-run fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead, and withstood a late Campbell (7-10) surge to hold on for the win in the first of a two game midweek series. The teams will square off again Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Brett Kosciolek (1-1) earned the win, pitching six innings with three runs on six hits, seven strikeouts and three walks.
Alex Yarem (0-2) took the loss for Campbell, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk in 4 1/3.
Campbell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before Rider tied it up in the top of the third. Five Rider hits were aided by two Camel errors in a five-run top of the fifth, giving the Broncs the 7-2 lead.
With Rider up 11-3, a late Campbell rush with three in the eighth, including a two-run Greg Tonnesen base hit, and two more in the ninth on Matt Parrish and Junior Snow RBI made it 11-8.
Mayberry, who's two-run single tied the game in the third, went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run in the win. Riley Mahalik and Teagan Piechnick also knocked in two for the Broncs.
Anthony Lopez paced the Camels at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs, while Parrish and Tonnesen both drove in two.
Campbell remains at home this weekend, hosting North Carolina A&T in a three game series, beginning Friday, March 18 at 6 p.m. The series continues Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. For tickets to all Campbell home games, please visit GoCamels.com.
