CHARLESTON, S.C. – Campbell scored two in the top of the eighth and Erik Dowse closed the door to help the Camels take a 7-5 win Saturday at Charleston Southern, taking its opening Big South series.

Campbell, winners in seven of its last eight, moved to 14-11 overall and 2-1 in Big South games, while Charleston Southern dipped to 11-13 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

Tied at 5-all after the Buccaneers knotted it up with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Nate Blanchard two run, two out single, the Camels put together their own two out rally, going up 7-5 on RBI base hits from Brian Taylor and Zack Minnick.

Dowse, who entered the game with two away in the sixth, stranded seven Buccaneers over the final four frames to help Campbell hang on to the victory.

Dowse (2-0) picked up the win in relief, working 3 2/3 scoreless innings with five hits, five strikeouts and a walk.

CU starter Grant Yost pitched four innings with three runs on six hits, a strikeout and two walks. Michael Horrell bridged the gap, going 1 1/3 frames with two runs on two hits with a strikeout.

Alex Ministeri (1-2) was saddled with the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits with a walk in 1 2/3 innings. CSU starter Daniel Johnson pitched five stanzas, allowing an unearned run on five hits with three punchouts and two walks.

Taylor knocked in two for the Camels in the win, going 2-for-5 with an RBI double in the sixth and the go-ahead RBI base hit in the eighth.

Campbell put together six hits and scored four in the sixth inning, capped by Taylor's RBI double. Four of those hits were on the infield, including a RBI suicide squeeze from Ben Calvano and a RBI infield hit to third for Anthony Lopez.

Lopez went 3-for-4 in the win, while Drew Butler posted a 4-for-5 day, also scoring a run.

Minnick stretched his hitting streak to 16 games with his RBI single in the eighth. Matt Parrish also extended his own hitting streak to 14 games with another eighth inning single.

Blanchard went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run for the Buccaneers, while Sly Edwards notched a 3-for-5 day with a run. Chris Singleton knocked in two runs with a base hit in the third, while Cole Murphy's homer tied the game at 1-all to leadoff the second.

Campbell rallied for two runs in the eighth and held on to top Charleston Southern 5-4 Thursday night in the series opener, while CSU claimed game two 18-7.
