BUIES CREEK, N.C. – UNC Greensboro used a five run fifth to push past Campbell 8-2 Wednesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Spartans moved to 20-6 on the season with the win, while Campbell dropped to 14-12 with just its second loss in its last nine outings.
Keaton Haack (1-1) picked up the win, going five innings with two runs on three hits, three strikeouts and three walks. Jake Lewis worked three scoreless innings in relief, while Easton Welch finished it out with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Chris Walkerow (0-1) was charged with the loss, going 1/3 of an inning with four runs, three earned, on a hit, one strikeout and two walks.
CU starter Wes Noble pitched four scoreless frames, allowing just a hit with two strikeouts and two walks.
UNCG broke the stalemate in the fifth, loading the bases with nobody out after two walks and a Campbell error. With one out, L.J. Kalawaia's single scored two, and Collin Woody followed with a two run double, making it 4-0 Spartans. Andrew Moritz capped off the frame with a RBI single, driving in Woody.
Campbell answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning, with Ben Calvano scoring on an error, and JD Andreessen coming home on a Junior Snow RBI groundout, bringing the Camels within 5-2.
A Cesar Trejo two run homer in the sixth and a Michael Goss RBI groundout in the seventh made it 8-2 UNCG.
Kalawaia, Woody and Trejo all knocked in two for the Spartans in the win, while Goss posted a 2-for-3 effort with a RBI and two runs scored.
Calvano and Andreessen both tallied a hit and scored a run for the Camels.
Campbell continues Big South play at Radford this weekend, April 1-3. The Camels take on Appalachian State in Holly Springs, N.C. on April 5 before returning to Jim Perry Stadium for an eight game stretch, beginning with UNC Wilmington on April 6.
