BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell softball split its two games during Friday's action in the 2016 Camel Stampede. In game one, Campbell fell 3-0 to Loyola (IL) while taking an 8-0 five-inning result against Maryland Eastern-Shore.
Game 1: Campbell 0, Loyola (IL) 3:
Ashley Rogers pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, en route for her fifth win of the season. Rachel McCollum and Madison Herring picked up the lone hits for the Fighting Camels during the contest, as the team was limited to two total hits.
For the Ramblers, Brooke Wyderski was the lone source of offensive production as she registered a RBI single to centerfield, sandwiched by a pair of solo home runs. Her first home run occurred in the top of the first inning, taking Katie Baker's pitch over the left field wall. The solo shot was her the sixth of her campaign.
The lead stayed at 1-0 until the top of the third when Wyderski plated her second RBI of the game, scoring Erica Nagel from third base. Campbell only got one base runner, Amber Schisler, who reached courtesy of a walk.
In the bottom of the fifth, Campbell's Christa Hall was able to reach first via an error and steal second the following at bat, but was unable advance any closer to home. In the bottom of the sixth, Campbell was able to get a pair of runners in scoring position with Cierra Harris at third base, and Taesha DuBoise at second, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat.
Wyderski added to her RBI total with her second home run of the game, extending the Ramblers lead to 3-0.
Baker suffered the loss, her fourth of the season, in six innings of work. Rogers claimed the win and Keenan Dolezal earned the save with 2 1/3 innings pitched, allowing one hit.
Game 2: Campbell 8, Md.-Eastern Shore 0 (F/5)
A pair of Campbell home runs and a one-hit performance from Caroline Smith propelled the Orange and Black to an 11-0 victory against Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Camels started the scoring early, as Schisler connected on her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, giving her team the 1-0 lead. She finished the game with a pair of RBIs and a drawn walk.
Campbell added another one in the bottom of the third, as Madison Casto scored easily from third, due to a throwing error by the Hawks catcher. One inning later, Caroline Smith recorded an RBI by way of a fielder's choice. Chandler Patterson was thrown out at second, while Lizabeth McCurry scored from third. Four batters later, Schisler drew a walk, adding to the lead.
The Orange and Black solidified its win as they score four runs in the bottom of the fifth, all with two outs in the inning, to put the eight-run, run rule into effect. Patterson and Smith hit back-to-back home runs, giving CU a 6-0 lead. Hall and Casto reached with singles, then DuBoise hit a deep single that allowed the two baserunners to score and end the contest.
Campbell will continue the Camel Stampede 12:30 p.m. contest against Appalachian State, then conclude the evening against Maryland-Eastern shore at 8 p.m.
