BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell split its results on the second day of the 2016 Camel Stampede. Despite building a 7-0 lead, the Fighting Camels fell in game one to Appalachian State 16-9. They bounced back in game two against Maryland-Eastern Shore 12-8 in five innings.

Game 1: Campbell 9, Appalachian State 16

Every inning had at least one run scored as Campbell sprinted out to a 7-0 lead after three innings before Appalachian State scored 13 unanswered runs in the following three innings.

The Fighting Camels scored their first two runs in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of back-to-back home runs from Schisler and Rachel McCollum. Appalachian State got a pair of base runners in the next half inning but failed to scratch the scoreboard.

Karsen Leonhardt's RBI single in the bottom of the second provided the lone run in the bottom of the second for the Orange and Black. Madison Herring scored from third base in the bottom of the third as Lizabeth McCurry reached on a throwing error. Two batters later, Christa Hall hit a three-run home run to left field, scoring Chandler Patterson and McCurry.

Appalachian State began its climb back into the game in the top half of the fourth inning. After a pair of batters reached base, the scoring began. Megan Walker and Natalie Orcutt hit back-to-back RBI singles, scoring a pair of runs. Pepper Butler added a RBI double and Jenny Dodd a RBI single, drawing back to 7-4.

After a Campbell pitching change, the next batter, Heather Josey singled to right field, scoring Butler. Following a walk, Cara Parker drove in the sixth run with a RBI single. Another walk drove in the seventh run of the game, tying the contest.

The Mountaineers took a one-run lead, 8-7, after a fifth inning bases loaded walk. After a fielding error with bases loaded stretched the lead to two, Josey connected on a grand slam, extending the lead to 13-7.

Campbell gained two runs closer after a Schisler double plated Leonhardt and McCurry reached by way of an error, plating DuBoise. The Mountaineers extended the lead to nine runs in the top of the seventh with three runs of their own. Campbell was unable to put together a seventh inning comeback, dropping the contest 16-7.

Schisler took the loss in the circle, her first of the season, while Annaleise Kennedy pitched 4 1/3 innings in the win.

Game 2: Campbell 12, Maryland-Eastern Shore 4

Schisler recorded a perfect game at the plate and drove in a team-high six RBI, including the walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

After a scoreless first inning, Campbell scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. Caroline Smith scored from second after a throwing error by the second baseman on Melissa Tullar's at-bat. Two batters later, DuBoise hit a two RBI double to center field, giving Campbell a 3-0 lead.

Two batters later, Schisler hit a two RBI single, increasing the lead to five runs. Soon thereafter, Smith was able to hit a double to the wall, scoring three runs, concluding the eight-run inning. Eastern Shore added three runs in the top of the third inning on two RBI single by Trenece Nash and a RBI single by Tesharra Hill.

Schisler's first home run of the game came in the bottom half of the third inning as she connected on a three-run shot, scoring DuBoise and Madison Casto. The Hawks answered with one run in the top of the fourth, cutting the Fighting Camels lead to 11-4.

With rain starting to come down, Campbell needed one run to put the eight-run run rule into effect. Schisler wasted no time doing just that as she took the first pitch she saw to deep center field, ending the game in the fifth inning.

The Fighting Camels conclude the 2016 Camel Stampede against Marshall at 1:30 p.m. inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
