LYNCHBURG, VA. – Caroline Smith's two runs propelled the Camels to a 6-0 victory over the Flames of Liberty. Courtney Roberts recorded her eighth win in the circle pitching a full game and allowing only two hits with 25 batters faced.
Taesha DuBoise recorded her 21st RBI of the season while Madison Casto added two to her stats hitting the 20 mark on the season. Smith tallied her 12th and 13th runs in the campaign against the Flames and Bailey Bjorson recorded her third of the year.
After going scoreless in the first inning, the Camels knocked in four runners in the top of the second starting with Smith's run batted in on a Casto single. Lizabeth McCurry made a trip to home plate on a sacrifice fly by DuBoise who reached first on an error by Liberty's Cassie Gingerich in left field.
The final two runs of the second came from a Rachel McCollum double down the left field line batting in Bailey Bjorson and Madison Casto for a 4-0 lead. The Camels followed with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the second to send the Flames back to the field.
Campbell scored again in the fourth as Amber Schisler came home on an RBI ground-out from DuBoise. Smith scored her second run in the top of the fifth after Casto grounded out to second advancing McCurry and Smith.
Campbell returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 19, for a doubleheader against Coastal Carolina. The Big South conference matchup will be played at the confines of the Amanda LittleJohn Stadium in Buies Creek starting a 4 p.m.
