WILMINGTON, N.C. – Gavin Stupienski knocked in four and Nick Feight added three RBI to lead UNCW over visiting Campbell 14-7 Tuesday night at Brooks Field.
UNCW (24-9) won its ninth in a row, downing the Camels (20-18).
Whitman Barnes (2-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing a hit and walking two in 2/3 of a scoreless inning. UNCW starter Justin Crump went 1 2/3, allowing two runs on two hits with a strikeout and two walks. Austin Easter allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk in relief.
Wes Noble (1-2) took the loss for the Camels, going 5 2/3 with five runs, four earned, on nine hits with six strikeouts and three walks. The sophomore righty struck out four of his final five batters before being lifted with two outs in the sixth.
Campbell held a 4-3 lead over the Seahawks after four complete. Anthony Lopez broke a 3-3 stalemate with a two out RBI triple in the top of the fourth. The three-bagger was the second of the game for the senior shortstop, also picking up a triple in the third before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Seahawks tied it in the fifth on Feight's single to right, and took a 7-4 lead after a CU error prolonged the frame. UNCW struck for six more in the seventh that included a three-run Stupienski double and a two-run homer from Feight, his 12th of the season.
Stupienski went 2-for-4 with four RBI, a double and a run scored, while Feight posted a 2-for-4 night with three RBI and a home run. Brian Mims and Robbie Thorburn also homered for the Seahawks in the win.
Lopez paced Campbell at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a RBI, a run and two triples. Matt Parrish went 2-for-3, and Jimmy Monaghan knocked his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the ninth inning, driving in a pair.
Campbell heads to Longwood April 22-24. Friday's matchup will be broadcast on ESPN3, with games two and three carried on the Big South Network.
The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium on May 6, beginning a three game Big South series with Presbyterian.
