Baseball falls at UNCG Tuesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Cesar Trejo knocked in four and finished a double shy of the cycle to lead UNC Greensboro over visiting Campbell 10-2 Tuesday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

UNCG moved to 32-11 overall on the season, while Campbell dipped to 22-20.

Trejo singled and scored a run in the third, following with a two run triple in the fourth and a two run home run in the seventh for the Spartans, who collected 16 team hits in the win. Trejo also scored three times, going 3-for-3.

Michael Goss also went 3-for-5 and scored three runs, while Devin Ruiz drove in two, going 2-for-5.

Bryce Hensley (5-1) picked up the win for UNCG, going seven innings with two runs on five hits, four strikeouts and a walk.

Collin Woody pitched the ninth, allowing a hit, walking one and striking out the side. Andrew Wantz bridged the gap, tossing a 1-2-3 eighth with a strikeout.

Wes Noble (1-3) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Phil Stokes worked 3 1/3 in relief, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Minnick went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for the Camels in the loss.

Campbell jumped on the board in the first on a solo home run from Anthony Lopez and a RBI double off the base of the wall in left-center from Minnick, scoring Matt Parrish. The homer was the fourth of the season for Lopez.

UNCG answered in the third with a run on L.J. Kalawaia's groundout. Cesar Trejo's two run triple tied it up in the fourth, and Ben Spitznagel's RBI single to center followed to give the Spartans their first lead. The Spartans tacked on three more in the fifth, including one on a Devin Ruiz RBI double to go ahead 7-2.

A Ruiz RBI single in the sixth and Trejo's homer in the seventh made it 10-2 UNCG.

Campbell heads to North Carolina on Wednesday, April 27, taking on the Tar Heels at 6 p.m. before taking the weekend off for exams. The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium on May 6, beginning a three game Big South series with Presbyterian.
