RADFORD, VA. – Colby Higgerson's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave Radford a 2-1 win Sunday and the Big South series over visiting Campbell.
Radford moved to 8-20 on the season and 3-3 in Big South games, while Campbell fell to 15-14 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Tied 1-1 after Justin Lamazares' pinch hit solo home run in the top of the ninth for the Camels, Jordan Taylor led off the home half with a double to right-center.
Moving to third on a balk, Taylor scored on Higgerson's 2-1 drive up the middle, giving Radford the win and the series.
Mack Krupp (1-0) picked up the win, pitching 1/3 of an inning in relief of Mitchell MacKeith, who went 8 2/3 with a run on four hits, issuing two strikeouts and a walk.
MacKeith allowed his first hit with two outs in the fifth with Drew Butler's single to left.
Erik Dowse (2-1) took the loss, allowing a run, his first earned on the season, on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk in an inning.
CU starter Michael Horrell went seven innings with a run on five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. Horrell retired 12 of 13 Highlanders after a Jonathan Gonzalez leadoff single in the fourth, including 10 in a row from the fourth through the seventh.
Wes Noble also pitched a 1/3 of an inning with a hit for the Camels.
Radford got on the board with two away in the third on a double steal, as Danny Hrbek took second, Chris Coia stole home.
After Lamazares' pinch hit leadoff homer tied the game in the top of the ninth, Campbell continued to threaten with two outs. Brian Taylor and Matt Parrish knocked base hits and Zach Minnick was hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Camels, but a ground out to short ended the rally.
Higgerson and Coia both were 2-for-4 for the Highlanders.
Radford took Friday's opener 6-4 before Campbell claimed game two 5-1.
The Camels take on Appalachian State in Holly Springs, N.C. on April 5 before returning to Jim Perry Stadium for an eight game stretch, beginning with UNC Wilmington on April 6.
