BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell softball dropped game three of its Big South series 4-1 to Presbyterian Sunday afternoon inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Campbell was limited to two hits on the day, as Presbyterian pitcher Sydney Seigler went the distance, giving up one run.
The Camels (16-19) lone run came in the bottom half of the second inning, a solo home run from Smith, her third of the year. Presbyterian (19-15) answered back with three runs in the top of the third inning. After a single and a throwing error, the Blue Hose had a pair of runners in scoring position with one out. A fielder's choice scored Erin Ruff from third and a 2-RBI single to centerfield propelled Presbyterian to its 3-1 advantage.
Each team gained only one hit for the remainder of the contest, with Campbell's coming in the bottom of the third and Presbyterian's in the top of the fifth. The Blue Hose added one more run to their lead in the top of the seventh as Jordan Ashley drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Hope Rogers.
Smith reached base in the bottom of the seventh after getting hit by the third pitch of her at-bat, but was unable to advance, as a ground out ended the contest.
Seigler earned the win for the Blue Hose, her ninth of the season, tossing a two-hitter. Courtney Roberts took the loss, her fifth of the season, giving up three runs while striking out one.
Campbell returns to action with a single game against East Carolina 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 in Buies Creek.
