BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell softball snatched a 3-2 victory against East Carolina Tuesday evening inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Melissa Tullar went 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of RBIs and Taesha DuBoise went 1-for-1 including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Campbell (17-19) gained two base runners before DuBoise was called to action as a pinch hitter. The junior transfer participated in warmups but left early to attend class and did not return until the top of the seventh inning.
After fouling off a 1-1 pitch, DuBoise connected on the fourth pitch of her at-bat and delivered a hard ground ball into the outfield, which allowed Madison Casto to beat out the throw from right field and score the game-winning run.
East Carolina (18-22) started the scoring quickly in the top of the first inning as Ciara Ervin hit a solo home run to right field. Campbell responded in the bottom half of the inning to take a one-run lead.
After Amber Schisler and Rachel McCollum both reached on singles and advanced to scoring position before Tullar delivered her 2-RBI single. With a 2-1 count, Tullar hit a hard single up the middle, allowing the two baserunners to score, giving Campbell its 2-1 advantage.
Neither squad scored again until ECU added one in the top of the fifth inning. With a runner on second, Kelsi Briggs connected on her lone hit of the game, a RBI single that scored Ervin. The game remained tied at 2-2 until DuBoise's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, giving Campbell its 17th win on the season.
Courtney Roberts picked up the win, her seventh of the season for Campbell, pitching the final two innings in relief for Katie Baker. Roberts gave up two hits and struck out one. Mary Williams went 6 1/3 for ECU, a complete game loss, giving up 10 hits and walking three batters.
