BUIES CREEK, N.C. – UNCW pounded out 11 runs on 14 hits, topping Campbell 11-4 Wednesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
UNCW moved to 16-9 overall while Campbell dropped to 16-15 on the season.
Three different Seahawks posted three-hit nights in the win, led by Nick Feight's 3-for-5, four RBI effort. The UNCW catcher doubled in the game's first two runs in the top of the first, following with a RBI double in the sixth and a solo home run in the eighth.
Brian Mims went 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored. Robbie Thorburn also knocked in one and scored twice, going 3-for-4.
Whitman Barnes (1-0) was credited with the win for the Seahawks, who sent nine hurlers to the mound in the win. Barnes pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings, striking out two. UNCW starter Cary Gantz pitched an inning, also fanning two.
Wes Noble (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and six walks. Tyson Messer and Alex Yarem both tossed two frames for the Camels, allowing four runs apiece.
Matt Parrish led the Camels at the plate, going 2-for-4, blasting his second home run of the season over the wall in left to lead off the eighth.
Anthony Lopez also drove in a run on an infield single in the fifth, part of a two run Campbell frame that brought the Camels within a run at 3-2 before UNCW answered with a three run sixth.
Campbell hosts Gardner-Webb in its Big South home opener, April 8-10.
For the second straight season, Campbell will team with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to help fight childhood cancer. This year's Vs. Cancer event will be on Saturday, April 9 following the Camels' Big South matchup against Gardner-Webb.
The Vs. Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving kids' lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts.
