Camels rally for 3-2 win at Liberty

Allena Heath and Jessica Stocking lead the Camels to the comeback victory

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Campbell rallied from a 2-0 deficit to come back and claim a 3-2 win at Liberty Saturday afternoon. Allena Heath and Jessica Stocking combined for 44 kills and both tallied a double-double.

Heath led all players with 25 kills and finished with 10 digs while Stocking matched a career-high 19 kills and recorded 14 digs. The Camels (17-9, 7-5 BSC) picked up their seventh win in their last eight contests.

After forcing the decisive fifth set, Campbell trailed 8-6 in the final frame after a 3-0 run for the Flames (10-15, 7-5). The Camels responded with four-straight points to take a 10-8 advantage.

The teams traded the next 10 points as CU led 13-11 on a kill from Heath. An attack error by Anna Gragg gave the Camels match-point in the next rally. The Flames fought it off once, but Stocking put down a final kill to complete the comeback for the Camels.

Kayla Schanback led all players with 29 digs while Summer Schuitema dished out 50 assists, which matched her season-high tally. Schuitema and Schneggenburger tallied six kills apiece while Madison Linxwiler had four blocks.

The Flames went up 2-0 and looked for the sweep in the third set. However, the Camels used an 8-1 run to take a 16-10 lead in the frame.

Holding a 20-15 advantage, Campbell scored five-straight points to win the third set by 10.

CU used a 3-0 spurt to take 13-10 lead midway through the fourth set. Liberty re-took the lead at 19-18 with a 3-0 run of its own and led 21-19 a few rallies later.

However, the Camels ended the set with the final six points, and a kill from Schuitema set the match to the fifth frame.

Casey Goodwin led three Flames in double-figure kills with 19. Gabrielle Vess and Gragg finished with 15 and 10 kills respectively, while Vess tallied a double-double with a team-high 18 digs. Amaya Williams dished out a team-high 41 assists.

The Camels will return home for a pair of home matches next weekend starting on Friday versus Gardner-Webb. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
